A wiki belongs to one owner, who can share it with other users in three roles. A role applies to the whole wiki: it gives the same rights on every page, and there are no per-page or per-block roles.
Roles
The owner cannot be removed. Every other member has one role:
- Viewer: reads the wiki, private or not.
- Editor: reads and edits pages and blocks, but cannot change settings or membership.
- Admin: can also change wiki settings and manage members.
Adding and removing members
Open the gear icon (Manage) on the wiki. The Members section lists everyone with a role. Click "+ Add", search the user's display name, pick a role, confirm. To change a role later, click the current role next to the member and select a new one. "Remove" revokes their access entirely.
Users you invite must already have a Wikilayer account — email invites aren't supported yet.
How visibility fits in
Permissions answer who can do what. Visibility answers who can see the wiki at all. A public wiki is readable by anyone, members or not; a private one is invisible outside the member list, except for pages shared through a public link. An archived wiki is hidden everywhere except the owner's management screen.
Sharing one page
The owner or an admin can publish one ordinary page of a private wiki without opening the rest of the wiki. On the page, open Page actions (the … menu), turn on Public link under Share page, and copy the generated /p/… address.
The link is read-only and opens nothing else: not the rest of the wiki, editing or settings. The menu also shows its view count after the first visit. Turn Public link off to revoke access; turning it on again restores the same stable address.
An agent can turn the public link on and off as well. On an already-public wiki, the share address redirects to the normal page.
