Wikilayer.org offers a hosted version. You can run Wikilayer yourself to keep sensitive data on infrastructure you control or avoid depending on the cloud service.

Components and requirements

Wikilayer runs as one wikilayer binary with the web interface built in, next to PostgreSQL 16 and a directory for uploaded images. The installations below set it up for one person on one computer; a server of your own can change more through its configuration: S3 storage, sign-in for several people and other settings. It needs at least:

  • a 64-bit amd64 or arm64 processor;
  • 512 MB of free memory;
  • 1 GB of free disk, plus room for your wikis and images.

Install

  • Homebrew on macOS, without Docker.
  • Docker on any computer with Docker and Compose.

Either installation can take a wiki moved from Wikilayer.org, and a local agent connects to it.
