MCP is the protocol AI agents use to call tools on external systems. Wikilayer exposes its tree as MCP tools at https://wikilayer.org/mcp (or /mcp on your own host). Add that URL in your client's connector settings; the two clients most users start with are below.
Claude
Open Customize → Connectors, press the +, and choose Add custom connector.

Give it any name and paste the Wikilayer MCP URL https://wikilayer.org/mcp, then Add.

Claude opens WikiLayer to sign in with GitHub and approve access. Approve, and you're redirected back with the tools live in any conversation.
ChatGPT
Open Settings → Apps, then open Advanced settings.

Turn on Developer mode (flagged elevated-risk; it's what lets you add a custom connector). A Create app button then appears at the top.

Press Create app: give it a name, paste the Wikilayer MCP URL https://wikilayer.org/mcp, set Authentication to OAuth, tick "I understand", then Create.

ChatGPT opens WikiLayer to sign in with GitHub and approve access. Approve, and you're redirected back with the tools in the apps panel.
What's next
Confirm the connection works: ask the assistant something like "Which wikis can you see?" or "Show me the outline of my wiki." If it lists your wikis or their structure, you're connected.
From there you read and edit in plain language: "open the deployment page", "fix the typo in the intro", "add a section under X". The assistant works block-by-block through the tools while you watch the same tree in the web UI.
