# Self-hosted

Wikilayer.org offers a hosted version. You can run Wikilayer yourself to keep sensitive data on infrastructure you control or avoid depending on the cloud service.

## Components and requirements

Wikilayer runs as one `wikilayer` binary with the web interface built in, next to PostgreSQL 16 and a directory for uploaded images. The installations below set it up for one person on one computer; a server of your own can change more through its [configuration](page:59592): S3 storage, sign-in for several people and other settings. It needs at least:

- a 64-bit amd64 or arm64 processor;
- 512 MB of free memory;
- 1 GB of free disk, plus room for your wikis and images.

## Install

- [Homebrew](page:59533) on macOS, without Docker.
- [Docker](page:59407) on any computer with Docker and Compose.

Either installation can take a [wiki moved from Wikilayer.org](page:59343), and a [local agent connects](page:59569) to it.
