# Visibility

Visibility is chosen when a wiki is created; its owner or an admin can change it later in the wiki's settings, or ask an agent to. Everything else works the same either way: what differs is who can read the wiki and how it is reached.

## Public

Anyone can read, and search engines can index the content; invited editors can write. [SEO works out of the box](page:8220): no plugin, no external generator, no extra deploy step.

## Private team

Invited members can read, and those with the editor or admin [role](page:4390) can write; everyone else gets a 404. The wiki is hidden from search engines, and link previews show nothing of it. It suits project workspaces, internal documentation, drafts in progress, and anything that should stay inside the team until it is ready, or for good.

One page of a private wiki can still be opened to a reader outside the team through a [read-only public link](block:43644); the rest of the wiki stays invisible.
