## History

### London's first scheduled international services

In 1919 Hounslow Heath handled the first scheduled daily international commercial flights from Britain, making it London's first true international air gateway.

### Croydon replaced it in 1920

Hounslow Heath was only a temporary solution. Commercial flying moved to the new [Croydon Airport](page:64097) in 1920, and the aerodrome closed soon afterwards.

## Legacy

### The site returned to heathland

The airfield itself disappeared. Much of the area survives today as Hounslow Heath rather than as an aviation site.
